On July 14, 2025, it was announced that the works have been completed: the motorway was opened earlier after the new cycling bridge was finished. From Sunday, traffic is once again unobstructed on the D1 motorway between Trnava and Hlohovec, after the new bicycle bridge was installed at Zavar. The motorway section was closed in both directions, but the full road closure—which was originally scheduled to last until noon—ended as early as 6 a.m., according to the police. The complete closure of the motorway was necessary from Saturday morning so that two cranes could lift the 87-meter-long steel cycling bridge, assembled from six parts, over the section near Zavar. The execution was not hindered by anything; the work proceeded according to schedule, as reported by the county council.
However, they noted that the cycling bridge cannot be used yet, and it will not be accessible for a few more weeks. The new bridge is part of a cycle path that is being built parallel to the secondary road leading from the village of Zavar to the Stellantis car plant in Trnava. According to experts, the entire project will require a few more weeks to be fully completed. The cycling bridge was implemented by a consortium consisting of Swietelsky-Slovakia and Cb-mont, while the cycle path is being built by CS company. The development is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, with a total budget of approximately 2.2 million euros.
